Cardiff Exchange Golfing Society welcomes golfers of all skill levels to enjoy the camaraderie and competitive spirit of the game.
Welcome to CEGS
The Cardiff Exchange Golfing Society (CEGS) has a storied history that reflects its enduring commitment to fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship through golf. Established in the early 20th century, CEGS has cultivated strong relationships with fellow golfing societies, most notably the Baltic Exchange Golfing Society (BEGS). Their inaugural match took place on 18th March 1911 at Southerndown Golf Club followed by a dinner in The Royal Hotel Cardiff. The return match in 1912 at Walton Heath Golf Club, followed by a black-tie dinner at the Connaught Rooms in London, setting the stage for a tradition of competitive play and social engagement. Throughout the decades, the annual matches between CEGS and BEGS have become a cornerstone event for both societies. These gatherings not only provide an opportunity for friendly competition but also serve to strengthen the bonds between members. The resilience of this tradition is evident, as it has persisted through various global challenges, adapting in format and venue to accommodate changing circumstances. For instance, the 2024 match was held at the de Vere Wokefield Estate, introducing a new format that included 18 holes of foursomes match-play on Friday, singles on Saturday, and greensomes on Sunday. The significance of the CEGS and BEGS partnership is further highlighted by their shared milestones. In 2025, the societies are set to celebrate their 100th match at the prestigious Royal Porthcawl Golf Club from May 16 to 18. This centennial event underscores a century of mutual respect, competition, and friendship, reflecting the enduring legacy of both organizations. Beyond their interactions with BEGS, CEGS has played a vital role in promoting golf within the Cardiff community. The society has been instrumental in organizing local tournaments, fostering new talent, and encouraging participation across all skill levels. Their efforts have contributed to the growth of golf in the region, making the sport more accessible and enjoyable for a diverse range of enthusiasts. The legacy of the Cardiff Exchange Golfing Society is a testament to its dedication to the sport and its members. Through a century of matches, events, and community involvement, CEGS has established itself as a pillar of golfing tradition in Cardiff. As they approach their centennial match, the society continues to honor its rich history while looking forward to future opportunities to promote the game and its inherent values of integrity, respect, and camaraderie.
